Information About Alexandra
Personal Description: I'm a 33 year old professional English teacher, quite flexible and approachable and enthusiastic about what I do. I was home educated from the ages of 12 to 16, and this has given me extra insights into different ways of learning and teaching. I went back into the mainstream to study performing arts, and loved working in theatre and opera, until the work dried up in my area. Since then I've had a lot of satisfaction in care work, sales and motor vehicle repair, but nothing like the fun there is in watching someone "get it" and understand something after thinking they couldn't do it - when you can stand back and watch them take control of their own learning and have fun with it. Plus of course, in teaching, I get to learn something every day, too.
Tutoring Experience: I have been teaching English for six years, and have taught children, teenagers and adults from a range of different language backgrounds. I have experience teaching all abilities, including proficiency (educated native speaker level) and complete beginner (no understanding of the language) as well as my specialist area of business English. I am familiar with most common examination systems in th field of ESL and EFL, and have successfully prepared students for a wide range of professional qualifications including TOEFL and the Cambridge suite of examinations.
Tutoring Approach: I prefer a friendly, open and communicative approach, and engage the learner with varied learning materials. I observe the learner's progress and adjust syllabus and teaching techniques to take advantage of the learner' strengths, while providing the feedback and support needed to improve. I've done a lot of work in one-to-one, and I know how stressful, and at the same time how useful and enjoyable, it can be if the atmosphere is right
