Information About Anna
Personal Description: I tutor English part-time. I am a mother of three, curently working part-time in the Psychology Department at Stirling University and studying for a PhD in English Studies. I have extensive working experience in the publishing industry, in my own PR and Communications Consultancy and ran my own children's bookshop for 3 years. Author of 'Scotland on A Shoestring', 1997.
Tutoring Experience: As well as Higher English tutoring, I am currently tutoring English to a adult learner, whose first language is Polish. I tutored 4 Higher English students with great success last year. I am also experienced in tutoring in the 11-14 age group.
My particular teaching strengths are in English (all areas of language/creative writing and comprehension), Communication and Media Studies.
Tutoring Approach: My approach is structured to suit the individual needs of the student.
A first session identifies areas of need alongside subject strengths. It is critical to establish the student's tutoring expectations for both the short and long term. For example, short term intensive tutoring might work on identified needs for exams/coursework submissions.
As well as addressing problem areas I believe that encouraging strengths fosters enthusiasm and ultimately increases confidence.
I like to work with a variety of types of text/material, once again suited to the student's age, taste and ability.
For students at A-level and above, literature search and online research skills may also be fostered.
Qualifications:
Current English Studies PhD student (Stirling University)
