Information About Beverley

Personal Description: I graduated last year with my PhD in chemical biology from the University of Edinburgh. My research involved learning about the chemistry of biological systems which I find extremely interesting. I now work as a post-doctoral research scientist for Cancer Research U.K. where my job relies heavily on my chemistry, biochemistry and cell biology experience.

Tutoring Experience: As part of my PhD I taught practical chemistry to undergraduate students at the University of Edinburgh. I also teach skiing part time. Both have allowed me to develop my communication skills with a wide range of age groups and abilities.

Tutoring Approach: As every student has their own way of learning I like to adapt my tutoring to suit each individual's requirements. This may involve reinforcing what they have been taught in class by the use of additional questions, or simply explaining the subject in a different way to increase their understanding. In addition, I often find that students are nervous about sitting their exams and as a result they would like to learn how to tackle examination questions more efficiently.
I aim to have a friendly (but informative) approach which allows the tutee to feel relaxed and comfortable as this makes a good environment for learning.
