Information About Bryan

Personal Description: I am a young, energetic and friendly professional who graduated from Strathclyde University with a Masters degree in Biomolecular and Medicinal Chemistry in 2005. I enjoy keeping fit by going to the gym 3-4 times per week. I play five-a-side football once a week and regularly enjoy socialising with friends.

Tutoring Experience: Whilst working at GlaxoSmithKline as a research chemist I was responsible for supervising university Industrial Placement Students on year long placements between their 2nd and 3rd year of their university degrees. This required me to critique their end of year reports and coach them on a daily basis such that they learned as much as possible during their year. I have had the opportunity to supervise both UK students as well as a foreign graduate who previously had never been outside of India. I was versatile to overcome and develop an understanding of the cultural barriers that existed whilst continuing to mentor, support and encourage.

Additionally during my time at GlaxoSmithKline in Stevenage I tutored key stage 3 maths for a period of ~4 months. During this time the student visibly grew in confidence and the parental feedback reinforced this. The students' class test results improved dramatically from being typically ~ 50% to the high 70s and early 80s.

Tutoring Approach: I can give students the independence of mind and confidence to handle any problem their curriculum may present them with. I encourage students to approach problems in a logical fashion and to think outside of the box. I aim to encourage the students to think in this way so that they do not develop a dependence on me. I believe that me having no formal teacher training is advantageous since the students can learn in an alternative way (based on strong analytical thinking and a scientific approach to any problem) to how they learn in the classroom.
