Information About Catherine

Personal Description: I am an honours graduate of Cambridge University (Trinity College) in Modern and Medieval Languages (Italian and Spanish). After graduating in June 2006 I spent a year in Verona, Italy and four months in Valencia and Almeria in Spain. I also spent a year studying at the University of Verona in Italy from September 2004 - September 2005 as the compulsory Year Abroad of my Cambridge degree. I am currently studying MA Advertising at Buckinghamshire New University. I have always enjoyed studying languages but have also found it challenging at times, and consequently understand the difficulties that language students can encounter. I enjoy learning about different cultures, both through first hand experience and foreign literature and film.

Tutoring Experience: I taught EFL both in Italy and Spain over a total of a year and a half, after completing a CELTA (TEFL) course in Valencia, Spain in July 2006. I have taught both adults and children, individuals and small and large groups. I have also had experience teaching in-company, including major banks and the military. Some of this teaching has involved preparing students for Cambridge ESOL exams.
I have also had experience of tutoring Italian and Spanish on a private 1-1 basis. Whilst on my Year Abroad in Italy, I was also involved in running conversation groups for Italians wanting to practise their English and vice versa.

Tutoring Approach: I have a very flexible approach to tutoring, as I believe that each student is different both in level, requirements and approach to learning. Consequently I try to tailor my lessons to the individual, adapting to their pace of working and concentrating on the aspects of language that interest them most, for example conversation or grammar. Lessons can be as relaxed or intensive as the student desires. I am also happy to follow a syllabus, especially if required in preparation for GCSE, AS, or A-level.
