Information About Claire

Personal Description: My name is Claire Tillyer and I am 25 years old. I have been working in laboratories since I was 19 years old so I have first hand practical experience of the application of the sciences as well as my academic qualifications. I have previously worked in a hospital haematology department as a laboratory assistant and at a private company as a forensic scientist. I have worked in both Germany and the USA. I am currently studying for a PhD in Forensic Palynology at the University of Worcester. I am extremely enthusiastic and easy to get along with. I enjoy teaching people about science and its applications.

Tutoring Experience: I have experience as both a tutor and a mentor to GCSE age pupils. I also ran physics tuition sessions for my fellow university students as many of them had not studied physics to “A” level and therefore found the topic quite difficult.
I was told that I made the topic easier to understand than the lecturer as the people I was teaching did not find me intimidating and felt more able to ask me questions if they did not understand.
I have been tutoring since September 2007 and have tutored around 10 different pupils.

Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is quite relaxed, I like to concentrate on areas of most difficulty as defined by the person I am helping. I am friendly, calm, patient and relaxed. I will explain topics as many times as is needed for the person I am teaching to understand, in different ways if necessary.
I encourage the people I am working with and try and give them the confidence to know they can achieve whatever they want if they put their mind to it.
I prefer to work in two hour session blocks (every other week is absolutely fine) as I find it to be a lot more productive than two single hour sessions.
I do not charge extra for travel or the provision of past exam papers so the price quoted is all inclusive.
