Information About Clare

Personal Description: I have a BA (Hons) in English with Theatre Studies minor. I am currently a post-graduate student at The University of Nottingham studying PGCE (Teaching) English and will qualify this year. I am a former journalist and editor, published award-winning poet and a mother of two.

I can also offer elocution and deportment lessons.

Tutoring Experience: I worked as a private tutor before having children and have run a variety of children's clubs. I taught at Mill Hill School in Ripley last year. I am currently working towards qualified teacher status. I have two children whom I have I have tutored myself in addition to their schoolwork - the elder of whom achieved standards well above his age in his SATs and the younger of whom struggled and I have brought up to the standard for her age.

Tutoring Approach: I have a lot of experience in finding different ways of making children understand concepts which they have problems with. I believe in tailoring teaching for the child and will use different techniques for each child, utilising their own interests as well as standard schoolwork.

I can tailor lessons to aid in exam preparation as well as subject support and catch-up.

I am also happy to tailor lessons for adults who wish to improve their skills in English Language and/or their knowledge and understanding of English Literature.
