Information About Daniel

Personal Description: Recently completed a Bachelors Degree in History with Politics at the University of Plymouth and awaiting results expected to be in the region of a high 2:1. I am a confident and intelligent person who enjoys new challenges.

Tutoring Experience: Little in the way of formal teaching experience, however, i have for the past two years run a study group within the University for like minded students as well as a coursework checking service for those in lower years.

Tutoring Approach: Having never tutored before I have no preconceived ideas of how it should be employed. Students are individuals and should be treated as such, the formulaic manner in which History is taught in schools is to the detriment of a subject i feel strongly about. A constant stream of dates and figures does not help a budding Historian understand the broader themes at work and as such results in essays too descriptive in nature. Higher grades at GCSE are achieved through the use of analytical thought rather than regurgitating facts and figures; this can only be achieved if the broader themes are understood. It is my opinion that History should be taught more in the style of Universities, creating a genuine interest in the subject rather than the right and wrong nature of a Science based subject.
