Information About David
Personal Description: I retired from full time teaching and being a deputy-head in 2002. I still do some independent school inspections and a good deal of tutoring, while keeping time to help with my grandchildren and, in season, a little fly-fishing. For both these reasons, we moved to Wiltshire when I retired from full-time work.
Tutoring Experience: After 35 years' experience teaching English to pupils from 8 -18, I retired a few years ago to near Marlborough in Wiltshire. When working, I qualified as a teacher of pupils with mild specific learning difficulties but continued as a mainstream English teacher and deputy head of the school. I have tutored students for most examinations, including Key Stage 3, Common Entrance, GCSEs, A level English Literature and Language. I have also worked with a few adults working for a degree, mostly helping with essay-writing techniques.
Tutoring Approach: I will come to your home and assess just what you, as a parent, are looking for and then, if allowed, I will assess the precise needs of your son or daughter. Then the work we do together will be tailored to your individual requirements based on a secure knowledge of the child's strengths and weaknesses. I am fully acquainted with the various syllabi and specifications of the examinations. I tutor in your home and do not teach English as a Foreign Language.
Qualifications:
M.A. (Hons) English Language and Literature (Oxon)
Diploma in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia)
