Information About Eileen
Personal Description: I am an experienced EFL/ESOL and Citizenship teacher, having taught in Turkey, Cambridge and now in East Hertfordshire. I teach adult students from around the world from elementary to advanced level and have experience in preparing students for a range of Cambridge examinations.
I have experience of teaching students on a one-to-one basis in their home. I have also taught students on short intensive 'total immersion' English language courses where the student lived and studied in my home for one or two weeks, following a carefully negotiated and agreed learning programme.
Tutoring Experience: -I began my career teaching young adults Business Administration before moving on to teacher training. I was involved in teacher training for over ten years but had always been interested in teaching English as a Foreign Language. A few years ago I made the move and retrained as an EFL teacher and am very happy I did. I enjoy teaching English as a foreign or second language and a year and a half ago I further developed my teaching area by teaching Citizenship.
Tutoring Approach: My teaching approach is very learner centred. My first lesson with a student includes the completion of a diagnostic assessment of students skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening. I analyse the results of the assessment to identify strengths and weaknesses in each of the four skill areas, e.g. Writing : use of correct basic grammar - tense, verb, subject verb agreement, use of punctuation, etc. Using this information and taking into consideration what the students wants to achieve, we negotiate an individual learning plan. We regularly review the plan to monitor progress and modify learning goals. My students are very successful in achieving their aims.
