Personal Description: My name is Emma and I am 21 years old. I'm currently in my second year of training to be a primary school teacher at Durham University. I'm interested in teaching because I want to help children reach their potential and to motivate them whilst learning. As a child I had a home tutor myself and remember it as a very positive and rewarding experience.

Tutoring Experience: During my two years at college I had experience in four different placements including a private nursery, a day nursery, a primary school and also a school for children with Special Educational Needs. Whilst at university a major part of my course entails my being placed in a primary school throughout the year. During that year my role involves the planning and delivering of lessons to a particualr year group in a range of subjects. I am also fully qualified as a teaching assistant.

Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is one which is friendly and involves meeting the child at his or her own level. I believe that it's important to assess where the child is at in their current understanding and then build up from that. Children learn in different ways and so it's important to identify the child's preferred learning style and incoroporate this into the delivery of the learning. Above all I feel that one of the most vital aspects of learning, especially for young children, is to make it both fun and rewarding. I aim to work at the child's own level, set achieveable goals and work towards the guidelines of the National Curriculum. I'm also very open to the idea of the parents being involved and aware of their child's learning.
