Information About Helen
Personal Description: I am a graduate in learning styles with a focus on english and drama/theatre. I have an active interest in all types of texts (novels, poetry, drama and essays) and specialise in essay technique (helping with advice on structure, organisation of material and clarity of expression). I also work as a drama coach and can therefore support LAMDA exam preparation, Drama School interview/audition preparation and in the development of monologues.
Tutoring Experience: I have been working as a tutor for 13 years and have had students aged from 11 to 40 years.
Tutoring Approach: I think it is important that all lessons are geared to the specific needs of the student. Consequently, I try to make sessions as collaborative as possible, and encourage as much contribution from the student as possible. Ideas only stick through engagement and participation - not lecturing - so I will try to make texts/subjects as interesting and relevant as possible. However, I also acknowledge the necessity of a methodical approach, particularly with reference to exams, so I am happy to discuss the process of putting together an essay - length, time management, structure etc.
An initial meeting will always be arranged before tutoring is confirmed, to make sure that the student and tutor will be able to work together.
