Information About Helena
Personal Description: I am a qualified teacher and have worked in the Bristol and South Gloucestershire area for several years. As a mother of two teenagers, I have my feet firmly in both Teacher and Parent camps and understand the worries of parents and students alike as they study for vital examinations.
Tutoring Experience: I taught in primary schools for several years, particularly enjoying Years 5 and 6 in the run up to SATs examinations. I now work with behaviourally challenging 15-18 years olds, improving their literacy and numeracy skills. I have successfully coached my own children through their Key Stage 2 and 3 SATs.
Tutoring Approach: In order to achieve as much as possible in a tutoring session, I need to define strengths and weaknesses in that particular subject. The initial lesson gives me a firm idea of these and guides my planning for further teaching. Some of my present students at work are teenagers with the academic level of a 5-6 year old. This requires a great deal of patience on my part and I consider that to be a strength when approaching personal tutoring. Along with my patience, I am also good at putting children and young people at ease. I do not intend to put my students under any pressure whilst I am teaching them as that can detract from progress but I work hard to create a positive learning environment.
I AM FULLY BOOKED UNTIL MAY 2009 AND LOOK FORWARD TO TAKING ON MORE STUDENTS THEN.
