Information About Jacqueline
Personal Description: I am currently in the third year of a four year english literature and spanish degree at the Royal Holloway University of London, the last year of which I have spent living in Almeria, Spain, studying at a Spanish University. Prior to my degree, I was a pupil of Hymers College, Hull.
I adore the spanish language and thus, thrive on giving others the opportunity to learn it. A bubbly, ambitious and determined twenty one year old, I am extremely sociable and have been told I have the skills to both put students at ease and endorse my particular subjects of English literature and spanish, in a friendly and fun manner,
Tutoring Experience: I have worked for two years in a school in London as a teacher of spanish, teaching both the language and culture to children of ages between 6 and 12. I have also worked for two years whilst at University, as a private tutor of GCSE english literature and spanish. Whilst in Spain, I also worked as an english teacher, providing private tuition in the airport, banks and to Commanders of the Spanish Legion.
Tutoring Approach: From previous experience, I can wholeheartedly understand how the wrong approach to teaching a language can be so detrimental to a student's love of the subject. Spanish is my passion, and from past work as a tutor I have learnt that it is my own love of the language and of all things spanish which stirs real enthusiasm in my own pupils, especially with younger ones. Therefore, in my sessions with younger students, I am keen to teach the language, together with time dedicated to discussing Spain, flamenco, bringing spanish food to classes and letting the children try to make their own, child-friendly sangria! I have a wide variety of spanish games and story books to aid a better understanding of the language. In terms of older students with a greater grasp of spanish, I am well aware of the specific aspects of the language which are difficult to all learners, such as verb conjugation and tricky areas of grammar. Therefore, from my own experience of learning spanish, I feel I can be of great help to those who are struggling themselves.
As my degree would suggest, my second great love is english literature. I am a great fan of reading and have a vast knowledge of books on the curriculum at both SATS and GCSE level. Having worked as a GCSE tutor before, I also have an understanding of the key elements whic examiners are looking for in both coursework and exam essays.
