Personal Description: At 28 years old I live in rural Devon near Tavistock. Apart from tutoring maths, I divide my time between independently learning university physics, basic French, and botany. I spend any remaining time exercising obsessively by playing football competitively, running on Dartmoor with friends, and cycling everywhere (I don't think I'll ever own a car). My holidays always involve touring different regions on my bike. Some extreme tours include following the Tour de France and riding through all of England's northern national parks over six days without eating.
Tutoring Experience: For seven years I have tutored students of various abilities from GCSE to Degree level maths. One of those students was blind and another suffered from cerebral palsy.
Tutoring Approach: The most efficient way to learn and understand maths is to complete exercises. I help the student to solve consecutive maths exercises from the syllabus (school or college courses) that they are following . As the student's ability to solve the problems increases, I gradually withdraw my assistance. I prefer to tutor students in their own home where they might relax and concentrate better; parents or partners may then choose to involve themselves at the beginning or end of tutorials.
Qualifications:
1st Class BSc Mathematics from Southampton University
From Gail McMullin (5/5): James is relible and very good at his work he explaines his subject very well and we would recommend him .
From William Meadows (5/5): James managed to connect with my 16yr old son and explain concepts that he had said he would never be able to 'get'. An understanding of some mathmatical concepts were completly blocked out from his his mind or were so woolly he had no hope of answering a question on them. Now he is thinking clearer and is much much more confident and best of all we BOTH appreciate James's efforts. James calm manner and subject knowledge, help him find a way of communicating maths where others have failed, My son trusted James and was not afraid to ask for help, and that was a real positive. I would highly reccomend James as a tutor and think anybody who is tutored by him is very lucky indeed. A hidden treasure!!
