Information About Jan

Personal Description: I am an ex-teacher with a wide range of experience, having taught students from age four to age fifty-six! Although I offer tuition in English, Special Needs, Maths and Science I am also willing to offer IT up to lower Keystage 3 and can help with self-image enhancement.
I have always really enjoyed working with children and strongly believe that one of the best ways to motivate children to learn is to find ways to bring fun and enjoyment into the learning experience. I still love learning myself and have a very good sense of humour.

Tutoring Experience: I trained as an Infant/Junior Teacher in Nottingham and started teaching in 1970. I taught for ten years working with children between the ages of four and ten years of age. I spent the following thirteen years in a Junior school teaching children across the Primary age range. On relocation to NE Lincolnshire I worked on temporary contracts and on supply in numerous Primary schools (including a term with the Special Educational Needs Service) until securing a permanent contract in a Junior school where I taught children in Years 4 and 6. I took early retirement in 2001 but since then I have done work on temporary contracts with special needs children in a primary schools, with teenage and adult students with severe learning and developmental difficulties at a local college, and have also taught Child Day care to Further Education students (one term) and Curriculum Maths to Higher Education Students (one term, one evening per week).

Tutoring Approach: I have always been a child/person-centred teacher and know the benefits that can be gained from one-to-one tuition as I did home tuition for a number of years during the early part of my career. I am patient and methodical and always use positive reinforcement. I am the sort of person who always gives that little bit extra which provides the tutee with very good value for money.
