Personal Description: I am a qualified Modern Languages teacher and languages have always played a big part in my life. They have given me the opportunity to travel to, live and work in many different countries. Being able to speak another language is a valuable and rewarding skill and I enjoy encouraging and teaching others to do so.

Tutoring Experience: I spent 5 years living in Italy working as a language teacher, translator and then Director of Studies of an international language school in Milan, as well as one year teaching English in both Spain and France.

My work abroad was varied and ranged from teaching primary aged children to language for Business Purposes in multinational companies to adult groups and private individuals wishing to learn for personal satisfaction.

In England I have worked as a Modern Foreign Language teacher in both secondary and primary schools, given private lessons to adults and taught English as a Foreign Language at universities and junior summer schools.

Tutoring Approach: My tutoring depends very much on the needs of the student, so the content of a primary school lesson will be very different from that of an adult's lesson. Therefore in the first session I assess competence and needs, and base my tuition on these. I have been learning languages myself for 20 years and in a variety of different settings, and can appreciate and anticipate learners' difficulties. I am encouraging and approachable but also require effort and application from my students. Language learning does not happen by itself!
