Personal Description: I am a passionate, friendly and hard-working teacher who can help to both establish the foundations for learning in the Humanities and Social Sciences and secure the knowledge and understanding required to grasp complex ideas and arguments. In 2005 I achieved First Class Honours in my BA in Politics and Philosophy and won the NALGO Prize for Politics, awarded to the most successful third-year student. I achieved As in History, Sociology and Religious Studies at A Level and studied modules in both History and Sociology at degree level. I am due to begin a Masters in Political Theory at the LSE in October.

Tutoring Experience: I have been teaching Sociology at A Level and Citizenship for KS3-5 for 3 years. I have 4 years experience of teaching students aged 11-19 and as I am familiar with the curriculum and assessment criteria of the Humanities and Social Sciences subjects I can extend and augment classroom learning. I am able to enliven topics by breaking down complex ideas into key concepts and processes and using real-life and relevant examples that students can identify with. I have a proven track record of enabling students to develop their academic ability and exam technique so that they can achieve exam success.

Tutoring Approach: If a student requires additional support and thinking time, I can prepare lesson plans based around the required syllabus which extend and clarify their general learning. If a student has particular weaknesses or areas in need of improvement, I can provide intensive focus on a particular area. If a student requires exam practice and feedback I can help them to plan and prepare for exam questions.

• BA Politics and Philosophy First Class (University of Sheffield)
