Information About Jessica

Personal Description: I am a fully qualified Teacher of English Literature and Language, having recently passed my Induction year and the Core Standards expected of an NQT, set by the TDA. Although I have been privately tutoring since Jan 2006, more recent clients have included tutoring a private language school Year 8 pupil, for the KS3 SATS, a Kendrick school Year 11 pupil for her GCSE English exams and a school-phobic TVU student for his GCSE English Language re-sit. Since August 2008, I have acquired new clients for common entrance training as well as for the KS2 SATS in Literacy and Numeracy.

Tutoring Experience: Passionate about primary transition; giving careers advice to 16-19 year olds and improving my own learning through obtaining masters level grades during PGCE. I have now taken this a step further by taking on a part-time MA in Education through The University of Reading.

Interested in both teaching and tutoring children from outside the UK. Such first hand experience has increased my knowledge of EAL, ESL, multiculturalism, multilingualism and ethnic & cultural diversity.

Hold a current CRB Enhanced Disclosure, as well as a First Aid Certificate.

Hold a clean valid UK Driving license and access to own vehicle, since March 2008.

During my NQT year, my focus was on the planning and delivery of my lessons, as well as behaviour management, target setting from assessment data and integrating myself into the English Dept., through the development of my subject knowledge and volunteering to run school based projects. My aim, for my second year as qualified teacher, is to improve my methods of differentiation for my new bottom set Year 8 and Year 10 class and to become more involved in the primary transition projects run at our school. I am also keen to become a Mentor for Trainee English Teachers, in the future. I have already taken up this role, on an informal basis, by offering advice and guidance to two new teachers, who are due to start their induction year in Sept 2009.

Tutoring Approach: I have a personalised approach to private tutoring. My aim is to develop a rapport with the child, in order to gain an insight into their personal goals and achievements. This, in turn, helps me to identify any weaknesses as well as build on the child's strengths. I am very exam practice based, teaching core English grammar skills through literary comprehension. I have previously tutored children for KS2 SATS, common entrance prep for grammar schools, GCSE revision for re-sits as well as tutored A Level candidates. My focus is always on the child's development and improvement, constantly striving for success.
