Information About Joe

Personal Description: I am a very motivated individual with good organisational skills. I have work experience primarily in clothing retail, however I also have other experience in a wide range of fields such as Information Technology and front of house ticket selling at university theatres. I am a hard worker and believe that any task I am set should be carried out only to the very best of my abilities. I am currently reading a degree in economics at Durham University, and it is my ambition to attain a Post-Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) at the University of Worcester following this, in order to become a teacher. I have an interest in sports, and play basketball roughly three or four times a week, as well as either running or swimming two or three times a week. I have my own car and possess a full clean UK drivers license.

Tutoring Experience: Although I am yet to gain any teaching experience, I am keen to do so through tutoring because I believe I have good communication skills and the experience will put me in good stead to attain a PGCE in the future.

Tutoring Approach: Again, I am yet to tutor so this section is difficult to fill in. However, with Economics I would like to make use of real-life examples to illustrate the workings of the subject (for example, the intrinsic relationship of Keynesianism with the Great Depression). For maths, my style of tutoring will depend far more upon the age of the tutee, however I would like to take a 'back to basics' approach by using concepts in the simplest way possible then building upon this. This would, I believe, remove the confusion that often arises when students get 'bogged down' in concepts that they never really understood.

From Tiffany Smith (4/5): Joe holliday was a very professional tutor. He taught AS level maths to a very good standard. I would certainly not hesitate to hire him again for further tuition.

From LYNDA LUCAS (5/5): Fantastic. Joe was an inspiration to Tom. Tom said that he learnt more in one hour with Joe than he did having a few weeks of Maths at school. Would highly recommend Joe to anyone.

Reply from: Joe Holliday: Many thanks Lynda, and best of luck to Tom for his upcoming exams. All the best, Joe.
