Information About John

Personal Description: I have a degree in Physics and Mathematics from 1967 and have been an engineer at Rolls Royce taking early retirement after 31 years there.Since I love these subjects I have now nearly completed a 9 year Open University degree course on the same subjects. I would like to pass on my expertise to those who wish to share the fun of these topics. I am 63 yars of age.

Tutoring Experience: My work at Rolls-Royce as an engineer required me to offer many courses on a wide range of subjects. The feedback from all these has always been very positive. Since leaving full time employment I have created and given courses on Family History and presented them to a wide range of customers.
I love teaching and sharing the pleasures of these subjects.

Tutoring Approach: I believe that if there is a wish to learn physics and mathematics then the job is half done. I expect to give the student as much time as is necessary to tackle any problems he/she may have. I will use up to date teaching methods and motivation. It will be hard work for both of us as I recognise that the subjects can be difficult. This means that we can share the fun of finding things out. It will be necessary to support tutorials with "homework" if real progress is to be made. I shall be available by e-mail or telephone to go through problems outside normal tutoring hours, of which no extra fees will be levied. Homework will similarly be marked and returned with feedback.

Qualifications:
  • B.Sc Physics with Mathematics(Hons) Sussex University. Currently restudying these subjects at degree level with the Open University
  • I have previously been a Member of Institute of Quality Assurance and am currently a member, and ex committee member, of FUSION, the Open University physics forum.
