Information About Jonathan
Personal Description: I'm currently a student at UEA in my final year of Biomedicine, and am 20 years old. I have always been deeply interested in all aspects of biology, and I actually enjoy talking about new discoveries and interesting points within the subject. The focus of my interest however, lies in human biology, and how it can go wrong - diseases, cancers, etc.
My aim, is to study MSc Forensics next year once I graduate, as it seems incredibly interesting and right up my street!
Outside studying, I currently work part time for the Post office, a job I enjoy much (even if everyone complains about it).I'm big into the concept of asking questions, about anything and everything. If you don't know something, why can't you find it out?; it's useful to know random facts. - I'm also currently working my way through learning Mandarin (really hard!), and the mandolin.
I like being able to understand how things work - not just that they exist; and it's well known about me that I can strike up a conversation with anyone about anything quite happily.
Tutoring Experience: During my A-levels, I mentored a class of 24 students, which required me to help explain topics from across a multitude of subjects, and to a range of very different pupils with varying learning habits.
The curriculum along which my own teaching followed in school allowed for an "option period" which permitted me to assist in a school for children and teenagers with special educational needs - an experience that was simply immense!
Tutoring Approach: I have a very active concept of learning, and believe that one diagram can make some topics easier to understand.
For the majority of cases, students asking for tutoring usually have a dislike to the subject - possibly because the material covered may seem dry and boring, or be taught in a manner unsuited to the learning style of the student (visual, textual, etc...). So essentially, I aim to explain topics and ideas to the student in the way they themselves prefer, and by making the topic seem more interesting, and hopefully the student will start asking questions to find out more - while adhering to the specification/syllabus.
