Information About Katie
Personal Description: I am a bright and enthusiastic English/History teacher from Australia. I have been working with young people for 7 years; the last 6 months at a secondary college here in England.
I understand the pressure the education system can place on young people, especially when it comes to exams, and I would welcome the opportunity to guide, support and prepare your child for assessment and exams, raising their confidence and their ability to perform at their best.
Tutoring Experience: I have taught English at secondary level in both the UK and Australia. Having taught at a large cooeducational comprehensive school in England, and a smaller selective boys' school in Australia, I have experience with a wide range of students' ability levels - and am able to tailor lessons to students' requirements.
I worked as a private tutor in Australia for 2 years, coaching more than a dozen students between 12 and 18 years of age in English (years 7-12), History (years 11-12) and Maths (year 7 only). Along with thoughtful and in-depth discussion of texts the students were currently studying, my English tutoring lessons included creative writing practice, essay-writing instruction and comprehension exercises.
I also have experience in coaching younger children. I worked as an English tutor in an after-school coaching college, providing extension tutorials for gifted boys and girls (ages 9 and up) after school in small groups. In addition, I have many years' experience as an art gallery guide for primary school students, organising and teaching school holiday art workshops, including art theory and practice, for these children.
Tutoring Approach: I am patient and understanding, yet will stretch your child to work to the best of his/her ability.
I aim to reveal the fun and engage my tutee's interest in the subject, while also adhering to the relevant assessment criteria and making sure your child is reaching, or preferably exceeding, targets set by their teacher at school.
My goal is to raise my tutee's confidence by having them show themselves what they are capable of.
