Personal Description: I am currently an undergraduate student, 3/4 of the way through my degree in Chinese, with a strong passion and enthusiasm for languages. I have experience in language tutoring. I feel that languages are a special gift and something for which I have a penchant. I am enthralled by language acquistion.

Tutoring Experience: I have experience teaching English as a foreign language in China and of teaching french to a large group of lively children back in the UK. I have many years experience of learning languages myself and therefore feel that i am able to bring this to my own tutoring sessions. I have been tutoring Chinese to complete beginners on a more freelance basics. My students leave my lessons enthusiastic and filled with new knowledge.

I have been tutoring a young girl Mandarin from scratch for a couple of months now. Her progress is rapid and impressive.

Tutoring Approach: With regards to starting a language, the emphasis is on building confidence and breaking down the walls that seem too large to begin with. As the student progresses then grammar and vocab building become increasingly important. As well as a serious academic approach to this task I also like to introduce different media types to the students in order to keep the subject alive. Once a reasonable grammar and vocabulary base have been established then I feel that it is important to make the switch to conducting more and more of the lessons in the target language so as to expose the student to as much practise as possible. Topic specific vocabulary is also a vital part of fluency, along with idioms and colloquial language. It is also extremely important to allow the student to be able to develop their own ideas on current situations topics/controversial topics in the target language so as to be able to discuss these topics.
