Information About Katy
Personal Description: I am a friendly, confident and outgoing individual. I am 26 years old and currently studying for a PhD in Microbiology at the University of Edinburgh. Aside from my academic interests I enjoy music (both playing and listening), swimming, travelling and dog walking.
Tutoring Experience: I have experience as a classroom assistant tutoring students ranging from 8-11 years old in the fundamental subjects including Maths, English and the Sciences. I also have experience of supervising practical Biology classes (up to 40 students) with an age range from 18 to 24 years old. Subsequent to my degree I tutored children from 8 to 14yrs old in Maths, English & Biology and have some experience mentoring children with specials needs. I have also worked for the exam board checking Key-Stage 3 examination scripts.
Tutoring Approach: I believe that education and learning is something that can be enjoyed by everybody at any age and that the key to success is confidence, self constructive criticism and an inquisitive nature, all of which are attributes that can be taught. As a student myself I am able to empathize with the difficulties faced by students and from my previous experience recognise the benefit of an enthusiastic and understanding tutor.
