Personal Description: I am a part-time teacher of A-Level Psychology. The 'part-time' is because I carry out one-to-one therapy for clients using a mix of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Additionally I have a small consultancy business, advising organisations on recruitment, promotion, leadership, management, staff development, etc.
My book, 'Knowing Me, Knowing You: an Integrated SocioPsychology Guide to Personal Fulfilment & Better Relationships' was described by one reviewer on Amazon as the 'best Psychology book of the year!' (2006).
I do Psychology 'for real'! - which helps take Psychology out of the text book and make it so much more relevant for tutees.
Tutoring Experience: I taught the AQA Psychology 'A' specification very successfully on a part-time basis for 3 years. This year, I have been doing part-time supply contracts, covering A-Level Psychology posts a term at a time. I chose to do supply so I would have more time to promote my book.
Recently I have been asked by a couple of students from schools I have taught at to give them private tuition. I found I enjoyed this and so have decided to use a highly-reputable agency like First Tutors to expand this side of my business.
Tutoring Approach: My preference is to use the tutee's own textbook as the core material for the work. However, I bring in additional materials, including selections from other text books, mind maps (spider diagrams) and case studies. I may relate **Web Address Removed** from my own practice as a therapist and consultant to illustrate certain points.
As exam technique is in many ways as important as the content of the specification, I encourage tutees to do practice exam questions in between tutor sessions and e-mail them to me for marking. We can then go through the marked answer at the next session. I also help tutees to be think about what they are putting down on paper by getting them to indicate where in their answer they think they've scored marks and what type of mark.
Qualifications:
Graduate Certificate in Education
BSc (Hons)
Master Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming
From Belinda Smith (5/5): My daughter found Keith very easy to relate to and without his input she feels that she may as well not have bothered taking the A level - he has given her much needed confidence by helping her to develp a structured approach to revision.
