Personal Description: Lew Lawton is an English Language teacher offering private tuition to individual or small groups in Swindon and the surrounding area. He has extensive experience in communications, computing, IT and Business and offers lessons in General English and Business English. He welcomes students of any nationality or ability and will work with them to improve their ability to use English. He also works for English language Schools in London, Oxford and Brighton. This summer he will be worked for Cranfield University on an intensive 3 week programme for members of the French Army. In his spare time Lew is a keen cyclist and trekker. He is a qualified cycle training instructor. He has raised many thousands of pounds for his favourite charity by cycling in places such as Peru, China and Egypt. In 2006 he took part in a successful trek to Everest base Camp where he and a few others managed to clear some of the rubbish that had accumulated there. (see picture taken at Base camp). Later this year he hopes to spend a couple of weeks teaching English in Nepal.
Tutoring Experience: Lew Lawton is a Communications and IT professional with over 9 years of teaching experience. He taught Computing and Telecommunications for Kingston University, the MOD's computer training centre and at an Army Technical College in Dorset. He spent 30 years as an Army communication engineer before joining British Telecom as a communications solutions consultant. Having spent 5 years as a member of high powered account team with BT, he is well versed in business matters.
Since training as an English language teacher in 2007 Lew has successfully taught students from Europe, Russia and China and recently completed 11 weeks of summer school teaching which included three weeks teaching French Army Officers preparing for their Staff Course.
Tutoring Approach: Lew's approach to tutoring is to carefully identify each student's needs and requirements. Working with each student as an individual he will agree realistic aims and goals for the course. He will then plan a course of lessons to achieve these aims. Typically Lew will set up lessons which draw from the student's own experience, for example one of his current students works in a garage, so many of his exercises involve vocabulary associated with cars . Each lesson will have a specific learning focus and encourage the student to participate in speaking, listening, reading and written exercises. Where appropriate Lew will use the same resources and course books that are used in the best language schools. Students are very much encouraged to attempt to use new vocabulary and grammar items, even if they make mistakes as this helps to build confidence with the everyday use of the language. Each lesson will be followed by "homework" to reinforce the lesson's key learning points. Flexibility is also a key factor, very often students have come across an "English" problem at work and need to have it explained, Lew is more than happy to alter a lesson's structure to answer this type of query.

From Camillo Toro (5/5): Lewis Lawton is a very nice teacher. He's reliable, flexible and makes all his lessons very interesting and suitable to what you exactly need. It's what I expected to find in a 1 to 1 tuition and I will be very happy to carry on to have lessons with him. Thanks Lewis.
Reply from: Lewis Lawton: I was very happy to help Camillo. He is an Italian IT professional creating software systems in the UK. He needs to be able to understand the clients requirements very clearly and to be able to present and demonstrate his solutions to his clients. Using a mix of Business English and General textbooks we are steadily improving his grammar and building up his vocabulary and exposing him to some of the many idiomatic expressions that are likely to come up in business conversations.
