Information About Lorna
Personal Description: I am a recently retired teacher. I have lived in Inverurie for eighteen years. I have a keen interest in wildlife and work part-time as an ecological surveyot with my husband who is an ecological consultant. I enjoy working with young peopleand have a good rapport with them.
Tutoring Experience: I have twenty four years' of teaching experience. I have worked in all sectors (primary, secondary, adult). In latter years, I have worked as a learning support teacher in both the primary and secondary sectors, specialising in specific learning difficulties, behaviour support and in-class additional support. I have also taught science and some elementary French. I have also taught English as a foreign language.
Tutoring Approach: I am a patient and tolerant tutor. I believe in an approach of mutual respect. Building a student's self confidence greatly reduces stress and allows them to better achieve their potential. I believe in learning from the students too and use their experiences and comments to tune my input to meet their needs. I expect students to try hard and complete any homework given as part of their goal. Initial planning of tutoring involves students, in that their needs drive the sessions.

From Jackie Birrell (5/5): Lorna has quickly made my son at ease with regards to tutoring. My son absolutely loves Lorna - after the first lesson he told me "Lornas really good fun mum". Lorna had previously said to me making it fun is the key - children then don't realise they are actually "learning".
Each week Lorna advises before the lesson what she will be concentrating on and at the end of the lesson Lorna also does a summoning up of how it went. Lorna is keen for Cameron to keep it touch with her during the week - which I think is great - it shows commitment and that Lorna really cares and its not just a 1hr a week job (Lorna - now that my home computer is up and running - Cameron will be able to email you.
Lorna is always very friendly, cheery and very professional. I remember after the first lesson I saw Camerons face actually light up - something I hadn't seen in a long time. Each week that little light just gets brighter. Would definetely recommend Lorna as a tutor.
Reply from: Lorna Hardey: Many thanks for the kind words. Cameron is a grand lad. He's enthusiastic and loves to succeed. He's a pleasure to teach and I always look forward to our sessions
