Information About Lyndsey

Personal Description: I have recently completed my Masters in English from the University of Manchester, which I undertook alongside a full time position managing a research centre at Manchester Business School. My research interests are focused on the interpretation of fiction for development of narratives of the self, and the power of storytelling to generate meaning and value. I moved to Lincolnshire to manage a theatre company and am excited about the prospects this new job holds for me. I am an avid reader and am keen to explore my research interests further, with a view to writing a PhD in the future. I am developing my skills with philosophical literature, and have a sound working knowledge of the key ideas that impact on critical studies of literature.

Tutoring Experience: I have received comprehensive research training as part of my Masters, and am a confident and enthusiastic tutor. I am focused and enjoy the one to one aspect of tutoring. I run regular workshops in performance techniques as part of my current role, and was part of a team delivering research methodology at Manchester Business School. I have also privately tutored children of friends and family, and found that the engagement of an individual to an idea can be stimulating and challenging.

Tutoring Approach: I am flexible in my approach to tutoring as i feel all individuals learn differently. What I do not believe in is education by preaching, and aim to open the tutee to a dialogue, encouraging them to think a problem through in the way best suited to their learning style. By asking questions to open their thinking in a new direction you can encourage greater retention of information and make the learning experience more valuable for both parties. I truly believe in the conversation of education, and feel i learn a great deal from tutoring, with each person offering new interpretations to a text or theory, and it is these conversations that produce the greatest thinking, and have a long lasting effect on the educational development of an individual.
