Information About Mandie
Personal Description: I am 45 years old and live close to Richmond, North Yorkshire. I have two teenage children, both of whom I homeschooled during their primary years. I work with girls through Brownies and Guides. I have taught in Secondary schools, Tertiary (FE and VI Form) Colleges as well as delivering work based training in industrial settings (Police, Army, Hotel, Hospital/Healthcare).
Tutoring Experience: I have many years experience in teaching 14+ and adult students. I have taught IT and Mathematics, Office Skills, Business Studies and Science at Tertiary and Secondary level. I have worked with students on GCSE and A Level programmes in History, Science, Philosophy, English and Business. I also have wide experience of mentoring and tutoring undergraduate students - particularly mature students on distance learning programmes. Subject areas include Nursing and Midwifery, Business, Management, Dance, Podiatry, Psychology, Landscape Architecture. I have also tutored EFL students - both on a 1:1 and small group basis.
Tutoring Approach: I believe in facilitating learning, tailoring my input to individual students needs. I use a flexible student-centred approach, giving pupils an opportunity to put their learning into practice. I aim to take the fear out of a subject, encouraging students to take a renewed interest in their subject.
I believe in taking a relaxed style, getting students to engage in their own learning and develop their own learning style. I encourage students to practice their problem solving and questioning skills, and develop an enquiring mind, enabling them to discover their own answers. I find that this approach gives the student a sense of achievement, and helps them grow in confidence,
