Information About Matt
Personal Description: I am a friendly and outgoing individual, who believes in keeping a good balance between good honest hard work, and good honest hard play! I am currently studying Mathematics at the university of Nottingham. Despite the pure academic nature of my course I do have a fun and creative side, which I feel helps me communicate the topic in a more fun and engaging way.
I present myself as a tutor of Maths and Physics, as these are the subjects at which I have been a consistant high achiever in, attaining almost full marks in both at A-level.
I have a great passion for these disciplines, and an even greater passion for learning and teaching, and learning through teaching. As it was William Glasser who claimed that the best way to learn is to teach. My Mum also being a school-teacher, has etched education into my psyche!
Tutoring Experience: At my former school I trained for their mentoring system, which was designed to give student-on-student support for any problems. However, I felt that there were yet unfulfilled needs, and set-up a homework-help room which was specifically designed to deal with academic difficulties. Along with this, I have volunteered help in my mum's school class, and have also tutored several students with Maths and Physics, both at GCSE and A-Level standard.
Tutoring Approach: It cannot be denied that Maths and Physics aren't the subject of choice for many, then again for some it can be simply fascinating. I respect both of these opinions, and will endeavour to adapt my teaching style to fit the individual tutee. I will use interesting and diverse ways to explore the subject matter, whilst still keeping a tight focus on those all important exams.
Note: A lot of people have expressed interest in having two hour lessons, which I have found to be a good length of time to get really involved with the work. I am now offering a discount for extended lessons; please enquire for more info.
From barbara murphy (5/5): Matt is entirely approachable and organised, building good relationships quickly with his pupils. He clearly knows his subject very well and patiently explains tricky concepts - even when this has to be done time after time!
From sara parker (5/5): Matt is very reliable and friendly and works well with our son.
From liam burgoyne (5/5): Matt Williams is an excellent tutor and highly recommended.
I used to despise maths but Matt has made me love it. He has taught me a level maths swiftly without sacrificing good tuition [4 lessons and covered one module]. He is clear when tutoring and has a sense of humour so you can feel comfortable when being tutored. I can honestly say that he is quick in tutoring with his methods; the methods are easy to understand. He can simplify and does help when you don’t understand a topic.
I'm pleased with my progress, my parents are as well!
From Daphne Staniforth (4/5): He has helped my niece improve and she is beginning to enjoy maths. He is kind friendly and approachable and has lots of tips that help her remember things
