Information About Neil

Personal Description: Since graduating from University of London (Goldsmiths College) 10 years ago I have worked mainly in television. I have worked in both local (London) and national TV as both a writer and presenter as well as a voice-over artist. I have also written and performed comedy sketches for LWT. Since moving to Devon a year ago I have been busy trying to establish myself as a freelance writer. I write aphorisms, poems and, occasionally, essays.

Tutoring Experience: I have litte formal teaching experience but three years ago was offered a teaching position at Ivybridge Community College (Devon) but was tempted back to London on the brink of accepting by a lucrative offer to write and present a film review series for LWT. I have always believed, however, that I would one day teach.

Tutoring Approach: I believe that there is no tutee who cannot be taught providing the tutoring is patient, empathetic and takes proper account of the tutee's specific needs/difficulties. I would suggest that in almost all cases tutoring merely (if not simply) involves encouraging tutees to find new angles or approaches to subjects. I would demonstrate how perceived 'barriers' to comprehension/engagement are easily overcome and are, in fact, not really barriers at all, providing the subject/problem is addressed in a way that engages the tutee's interest and promotes his/her confidence. As something of a late bloomer intellectually I feel I am very well qualified to connect with and encourage tutees who might be falling behind a little at school or simply require some extra assistance. My approach is empathetic, patient and clear.
