Personal Description: An honours graduate in business studies from University College Dublin, I have spent most of my working life in business in the UK. For many years now I have been a director of a number of companies active in project development in the hospitality sector; I am curremtly scaling back my business activities to embark on a long time ambition of being a primary school teacher and I am currently studying for a PGCE.
Tutoring Experience: For a number of years, before the pressures of business required me to take a break, I taught economics and statistics to adults, mainly on professional courses, though also to A Level and undergraduate students. I found that I spent much of my time remedial teaching, especially basic mathematics - it was this that made me realise I would really like to teach younger children; though I also continue to "teach" adults in my role as an Observer for the Institute of Advanced Motorists
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is very "real world", as you might expect after many successful years in business where producing actual results to demanding deadlines is the norm. I know from my experience with tutoring to different age groups that the key is having all the patience that is necessary to sort the basics - thereafter my students tend to fly independently and go from strength to strength as they build their knowledge and understanding of their own accord.
