Information About richard

Personal Description: I have lived in Worcester for over 10 years after completing my English Degree and my Postgraduate Degree at Worcester University. During this time, I have taught at a number of Secondary Comprehensive Schools including Tewkesbury School, where I was Key Stage 4 English Manager for a number of years; I currently teach at Bishop Perowne in Worcester. I have a passionate love of English, which is reflected in my teaching, and in my role as Editor of the Official Walter de la Mare Website.

Tutoring Experience: I have taught English Language and English Literature for seven years. During this time, I have gained experience teaching students of wide ranging abilities across Key Stages 3, 4 & 5. At KS3, I have helped develop and have taught schemes of work focused explicitly on the Literacy Framework Objectives, including SATs preparation. At KS4, I have planned, taught and assessed both AQA and WJEC syllabi. At KS5, I have taught the AQA Literature AS/A2 and the AQA Language and Literature AS/A2 syllabi. With regards to tutoring, I have extensive experience of running one to one drop-in clinics across all key stages and abilities for both catch-up and revision courses.

Tutoring Approach: Although perhaps an obvious statement, the key to any successful tutoring is to foster open communication between the tutee and tutor. I believe it is vital that the tutee feels confident to express their difficulties with aspects of the subject in order to identify more effective strategies to address them. As English is essentially a skills-based subject, I aim to focus on developing the tutees's skills so as to more successfully tackle the demands of it. Consequently, tutor sessions will include focused tasks which develops knowledge of sentence construction, spelling strategies, expanding vocabulary, essay writing, literary terms as well as more specific teaching of particular poems, plays or novels.
