Information About Ruth
Personal Description: I am a part time teacher in Devon currently working for 3 separate employers in community education projects and online learning projects. I am organised but can be spontaneous too. I enjoy teaching and learning. I am able to work with all ages and have an individualised approach to teaching and learning. I am able to see my way around barriers to learning and help a learner achieve set goals.
Tutoring Experience: I have worked in the British education system since 2000. Prior to this I spent 10 years working in the NHS in a science/maths role.I have also home educated my son whilst our family was working for 18 months in remote outback Australia. I keep up to date with syllabuses, exam boards etc.
My specialist subject is English (both language and literature) from Primary to degree level. I can help with reading comprehension, note taking, essay writing skills and study skills for undergraduates and others. I can explain spelling, punctuation and grammar rules. I have experience of teaching learners whose first language is not English.
My Maths ability is also high (I have Statistics A Level Grade A) and so can also offer numeracy tuition in the primary age range.
Tutoring Approach: My approach is based on the individual learner. I am skilled in assessing individual learning needs and tailoring a programme to address them. I can provide different ways of learning, eg book based, worksheets, past papers, internet resources, kinaesthetic resources and games. I break down a large problem into smaller manageable steps. I aim to build confidence.
