Information About Sam

Personal Description: Friendly and approachable, 23 years old. Currently a third year student at Kings College London studying for an M/Sci in Physics. As such, I am particularly experienced in maths and physics. At A-level I studied, Maths, Physics, Electronics, A/S Further Maths and A/S Chemistry, so I am quite familiar with these subjects at KS2, KS3, GCSE and A-level.
As I am quite a young scientist, I can closely relate to teenagers, and issues they might therefore have with maths or the sciences, as I either have had the problems myself or because I've helped someone through the same problems.
Since I completed my A'levels only three years agos, most of the issues around the subjects are still fresh in my mind, from statistics to algebra, and the same goes for any of the sciences. I will offer a great service to my tutee, this will by shown by the improvements of their grades after just a short while with me.

Tutoring Experience: I used to tutor a few children of friends of my parents for GCSE Maths and they and their parents were always very satisfied with my help. I am confident that I made a significant difference to their understanding that led to them achieving a better final grade. Now that I am nearing the end of my university degree I would like to continue private tutoring as I am strongly considering training to be a teacher in the near future.

Tutoring Approach: As I have been taught the same subjects by different teachers at different levels, I believe there are many different approaches to a single problem. Therefore I believe that any subject can be taught in such a way that the tutee will understand the basics, and will be able to apply that knowledge to the problems and find a solution.
I do not think that simply explaining topics is the most effective way to teach maths or the sciences to a student. I think the best way is through teaching the basic principles of a topic and showing the student different methods to answering the questions, so that they can decide the ones that best suit them. Also working with them through examples but allowing the students to do most of the examples by themselves in front of you with encouragement is the surest way for them to completely understand the methods used to solve their questions.
