Information About Sarah
Personal Description: I am a 27 year old mum of two, so I understand that all parents want to give their children a head start in life. I am currently employed as Teacher of Science at a high school in St. Helen's. I am reliable, innovative and enthusiastic. I enjoy teaching, and would use my experience and knowledge from teaching to help the pupil achieve to their full potential.
I have an in depth and up to date knowledge of a wide range of subjects. I have a BSc (Hons) degree in Psychology and Biology from Liverpool John Moores University. I also have Alevels in English, Biology, Psychology, Chemistry and General Studies.
Tutoring Experience: In July 2006, I completed a Post Graduate Certificate in Education in Secondary Science. I achieved the highest level of qualification, and the relaxed, fun learning environment I create was always commented on. I have had a lot of experience teaching different ability ranges, in different types of schools, and all my lessons are fully inclusive of all learning styles.
I really enjoy teaching, and always make my lessons fun. I have developed a wide range of electronic games to help make learning fun, and will use these to help with my tutoring.
I have been tutoring for 2 years now, and thoroughly enjoy it. I have an excellent success rate with my tutees, with most of them achieving an improvement of atleast 2 grades. For example, a student recieving a "C" retook the exam after tuition and recieved an "A".
I have experience in teaching A-level Psychology and Biology. I enjoy both subjects, and would hopefully pass this enthusiasm to the pupil. I also have a lot of experience in preparing essays for coursework and the citeria which needs to be met for all of these subjects. I am familiar with AQA and OCR specifications.
Tutoring Approach: My approach to tutoring is to create a relaxed atmosphere for the pupil and discuss problems which have arose. I would then set out a short term plan to help rectify these problems, and produce personal lessons aimed at the pupil's needs. these will include a lot of information, but will also include interactive games, to keep the lessons varied. I will also provide references for websites which I feel the pupil could benefit from visiting. I will also teach exam skills to ensure that the pupil has a lot of exam practice, and an understanding of how to read exam papers. I follow the National Curiculum in school. so am well versed in the criteria. I have taught all ability ranges, and am competent in teaching Gifted and Talented students and Oxbridge candidates.
I will provide the pupil with an invaluable range of knowledge in their subject, but will also ensure that the lessons are fun, so that they look forward to additional tutoring.
