Information About Shafiq

Personal Description: I am a keen scientist at heart, currently at university studying for a BSc in Human & Medical Science. I enjoy teaching very much and after I graduate, I intend to complete my PGCE in chemistry to teach in secondary school. I am an upbeat, friendly person who enjoys making learning an exciting experience, rather than simply a means to pass exams. My view on teaching is that the more a student gets involved and motivated, the more learning will take place! I have a lot of experience tutoring science, and being a medical science undergraduate and prospective chemistry teacher gives me the drive and enthusiasm to teach enthusiastically, creatively and personally.

Tutoring Experience: I have been tutoring science for 4 years, from KS2 through to KS4. My tutoring experience started from a very young age of 16. I have since developed my ability to dissect the curriculum in such a way that it becomes memorable, and more importantly understandable for the tutee. Furthermore, I spent **Telephone Number Removed** working as a teaching assistant in a secondary school. This fuelled my passion for teaching even more and forced me to rise to the challenge of coping with many pupils at once. In turn, it has made me confident that teaching is what I love and what I want to put my 100% into.

Tutoring Approach: Every pupil is different, with different learning styles and different goals. Therefore, I adapt my teaching style to suit the need of the tutee. I teach using a wide range of materials, from past paper questions and textbooks, to using models and small experiments easily done with ordinary household items.

I always require an assessment lesson prior to beginning tutoring, to gauge the pupil's ability level and discuss the requirements for the duration of teaching. I do teach directly from the exam board syllabus should the tutee/parents request it, although I do prefer to use them as a rough guide and provide a more intuitive approach. Never-the-less flexibility is the key to my teaching style.

Lessons are all planned in advanced, with written progress feedback every half-term for the consideration of the parents and also to monitor progress. The aim of each lesson is to engage the pupil's mind to the subject, as only then can they truly understand, especially when learning science.

From Patsy Lewis (5/5): I am very happy with Shafq's tutoring methods. I have seen a big improvement in my child's confidence and knowledge after only a few lessons.

I would highly recommend Shafiq without any hesitation to other parents wanting his superb services for their kids.
