Information About Sharon
Personal Description: I have been working in Secondary education for 18 years and have supported children at all levels and ages. I am a British Sign Language Communicator so have been teaching Deaf students as well as hearing students. I specialise in mathematics and have vast experience of the GCSE topics and requirements and especially enjoy bringing this subject alive in fun and imaginative ways. I am a mother of two and have been supporting children within the lower ability classroom as well as those aiming for A grade maths at GCSE. My passion is resource making and relish the areas of my work that allow me to bring different ways of learning to the students, especially those students that prefer to learn through more visual means and have limited literacy skills ie English as a foreign language or profoundly deaf etc.
Tutoring Experience: I have had 18 years of supporting Secondary students in all subjects across the curriculum, but specialise in mathematics where my expertise lies in the GCSE areas/topics. I have been a tutor for A -C grade maths students as well as foundation level students and I am also an author for an internet resource company, making mathematics resources for students with limited literacy and GCSE special needs students. I have also taught alternative examinations such as Entry Level Certificates which can parallel the GCSE curriculum. I am completing a Degree in September which includes IT, Maths, Science, and Education courses as well as 2 A levels. I am looking to commence Teacher Training in September 2008. I am also a tutor for a year 7 pupil in the area of mathematics. In the area odf special needs, I would be happy to to support any local Deaf students as I have been a communicator for many years and am exptremely experienced in the world of deaf education.
Tutoring Approach: I feel that it is important to make tutoring as enjoyable as possible, with the emphasis on fun. I like to find ways to help the students absorb knowledge in imaginative ways. All students learn in different ways and the right approach found for each student. Positive reinforcement and encouragement is important, and I feel tutoring can help provide that vital confidence that so many students can lose during thier time at school.
