Information About Sophie

Personal Description: I am currently studying Biomedical Science at the University of Sheffield, and became interested in tutoring when I realised I really enjoyed helping my younger siblings with school work and revision! Throughout school, I have always achieved good grades, and want to make the most out of my education by ensuring I can pass on what I have learnt over the years to others.
I am currently a member of St John's Ambulance, and have some knowledge of basic first aid skills, and have done over 100 hours of voluntary work in the community, working for both a charity shop and working in Pinderfields hospital helping rehabilitate people who have suffered brain injuries.

Tutoring Experience: I spent a year as a personal mentor, helping a boy in Year 8 with maths, which he was having difficulties with. I really enjoyed this, as not only did I see him improve with his maths, but I also saw his confidence grow as he became more comfortable with the subject.
I also took part in a scheme called "Learning to Learn" where I helped a variety of pupils who were often found to be doing poorly in school work and helped them to become more motivated.
As well as this, I also often help my 2 sisters with studying for their GCSE work, and my brother with Year 6 SAT's.

Tutoring Approach: I've found that every student has a learning style that suits them best, be it visual, auditory or kinesthetic. Therefore, I would aim to tailor my tutoring to the way in which they learn best. I also always try to make it fun and interesting, as being at university and having gone through SAT's, GCSE'S and A levels, I can see things from the students perspective, and know that the more interesting and stimulating a subject is made, the more motivated the student will be, and learning will be a much more enjoyable experience. I know that when students don't understand something fully, they can often be too shy to admit this, especially if they are in a classroom setting and everyone around them seems to understand, so being able to provide that bit of extra help that they might need can do wonders for a student's self esteem, as well as academic progress.
