Information About Steven
Personal Description: I am primarily a working lawyer and father of 4; but also a linguist, a vice-chair of school governors of a large secondary school and I have evenings free to tutor. Obviously law is a subject I know very well. But I also have a degree in French law and have worked as a lawyer in france for over 2 years and still have many French connections so my knowledge of French language is of a very high standard. English and History are - despite all I've just said - my favourite subjects and I think I can translate my enthusiasm into real help with learning...
Tutoring Experience: I have no formal teaching qualifications. I was a student tutor to first year students at Birmingham University and a mentor to law students wishing to work in the commercial law firms I myself worked in. I have also tutored my own and other children through 11plus exams with (so far) 100 % success...
Tutoring Approach: I believe in finding out what stimulates the student about the subject - and what he/she feels holds him/her back and makes it seem rather difficult. Then we work out a programme where we devote some of our time to the things within the comfort zone and the rest to the areas where help is more needed. Not being a teacher myself I have no pre-set syllabus and I'm happy to let the student shape the programme that will best help him/her get back on track.
