Information About Vivien
Personal Description: I have been a teacher for about 15 years now and really enjoy it. I am an efficient and helpful individual whom enjoys meeting people. I have excellent organising and teaching skills to ensure positive results are achieved. I am able to communicate well at all levels, coping efficiently in all situations. I am conscientious, understanding and have succeeded in my chosen profession. During my spare time I enjoy doing private tutoring helping students and their learning. I also enjoy walking, reading, playing tennis and current affairs. In addition I also enjoy helping to organise activities and events both for the schools I have worked in and for the ELDS (East Lancs. Deaf Society). I also enjoy teaching people to learn British Sign Language.
Tutoring Experience: I have worked in many educational settings with various ages and abilities. I have particularly spent a lot of my time working with students who have learning difficulties or challenging behaviour, which I thoroughly enjoy. I have worked in primary schools, secondary schools, colleges and I am at present doing private tuition, which I have done for 3 years now.
I have tutored many students leading up to and through their SATS, Entrance Exams, CATS and GCSE's with very positive results.
I can provide many references, both academically and from my point of view more importantly from parents and students themselves, as they are the ones who count most.
Tutoring Approach: Teaching and learning others is my life I love it and ensure the students I am learning love it to.
Qualifications:
BTEC National Certificare in Child Education

From Michael Briggs (4/5): Georgina has now settled to Vivien's visits and I am confident that her sessions with Vivien will help her get a ''top grade'' in her forthcoming GCSE exams. Vivien is a committed teacher and this shows through in her approach.
Reply from: Vivien Alker: Mr Briggs
Thank you very much for your kind feedback. Georgina is very intelligent and tries very hard with her work. She is a pleasure to work with. I am confident that she will do extremely well in English GCSE along with the rest of her subjects. I know you are both very proud of her and think she will try her upmost to achieve her usual outstanding results.
I wish her the very best of luck. Thank you Vivien
From Rabia Karim (5/5):
Reply from: Vivien Alker: Thank you. I wish Rabia every success in her future. I am sure she will do very well in her forthcoming exams.
From sheila hodgkinson (5/5): Really good tutor, children really like her & are learning & catching up! Thanks
Reply from: Vivien Alker: Thank you for your kind comments. Your daughters are lovely students and I really enjoy working with them. I am extremely confident that they will both do very well in their forthcoming GCSE’S and produce the results they are aiming for and deserve!
From Bridget Billany (5/5): My daughter, Adele, has settled really well with Vivien and looks forward to her weekly visits. Vivien not only patiently tackles the areas where Adele is having problems but also manages to incorporate lots of games and "fun" activities into the hour, so Adele doesn't see it as an arduous session. Adele's confidence is gradually increasing as she is becoming less "scared" of Maths, and more willing to have a go at something that she may not be that sure of.
From Nicola Gornall (5/5): Having been out of school for 6 months I was concerned about how Oliver would respond to numeracy and literacy again! Vivien has enthused Oliver, he is now self motivated and determined to secure a place at LRGS. Oliver absolutely loves his lessons with Vivien, she makes then fun with lots of praise and reward. Oliver now LOVES Maths and is getting his head around verbal reasoning. Thanks Vivien, you're brilliant, we love having you!
Reply from: Vivien Alker: Nicola and Oliver
Thank you very much for your lovely feedback. I am so please that Oliver is enjoying our sessions together. He is very determined and enthusiastic to learn, Oliver’s got a brilliant memory. The speed he is learning is excellent. You can’t tell he’s had to have 6 months away from school.
Oliver tries very hard and is very committed to his work. Well done Oliver you should be so very proud of yourself. I know your Mum and Dad are and so am I. I really enjoy working with Oliver he is such a pleasure to teach. I wish him every success in securing a place at LRGS. With his commitment and determination to learn I have no doubt that he will achieve this, which he fully deserves!
Thank you Vivien
From Sam Bruce (5/5): Vivien has been tutoring my daughter for the past 10 weeks in preparation for an entrance exam. My daughter's confidence has grown each week and she has also moved up a set at school. She is now able to tackle questions that she would simply not have bothered to attempt a few months ago, and her teachers have even noticed the change in her abilites. My daughetr has also enjoyed and looked forward to her sessions. I would happily reccommend Vivien as a tutor, and am even considering asking her to come back in preparation for the SATs exams. Thanks for all you help Vivien !
Reply from: Vivien Alker: Mrs Bruce
Thank you for your kind comments. I really enjoyed tutoring your daughter and I am sure she will do really well in her entrance exams. She is a very eager, enthusiastic and intelligent student. She is also extremely willing to learn and shows initiative and dedication when tacking new things. She’s shown she now as the confidence and ability to continue growing and succeeding in all areas of her learning. I really wish your daughter all the best of luck in everything she decides to do and hope she achieves (which I am sure she will, the goals she is aiming for) You must all be very proud of your daughter and she should be very proud of herself. Please let me know how she went on with the exams, I was thinking about her. It was a pleasure working with your daughter and I am extremely pleased I helped in some way. Thank you again. Take Care Vivien
